Russian Missile Hits Military Base Near Polish Border, 20 People Reportedly Killed

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, LVIV – Rocket attack on military base near Lviv, Ukraine reportedly killed 20 people, Sunday (13/3/2022).

Luke Harding of the Guardian, who is in Yavoriv where the base is located, said the death toll was higher than the Lviv governor announced on Sunday morning.

Maksym Kozytskyy said nine people had been killed in an air strike on the military base of the Center for International Peacekeeping and Security with 57 injured.

Two large explosions were seen Sunday at the base in Yavoriv, ​​a garrison town just 12 km from the Polish border.

The rocket attack took place at 5:45 a.m. local time.

“My windows shook. The whole house shook.”

“It was dark. The sky seemed to light up when two explosions were seen,” said Stepan Chuma, 27, a worker in the Ukraima emergency services who rushed to the scene with his colleagues.

He said 20 people were confirmed dead.

19 ambulances with sirens sounded from the base, a witness said, according to Reuters.

Seven other ambulances were seen speeding towards the facility.

Kozytskyy said Russia fired 30 rockets at the complex.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said foreign military instructors were working at the facility, but it was not clear if anyone was present when the attack took place. (Guardian)
