Like The Silent Sea, 5 Dystopian Drakors with a Terrifying Feel

Most Korean dramas are romance stories or mysterious serial murder stories. However, now the drama script writers are starting to use the dystopia theme in the stories they write.

The dystopia theme in drama series is usually set in an unknown time where people are unhappy and afraid of being treated unfairly. If you’re curious, let’s take a look at a series of Korean dramas with the theme of dystopia through the following reviews:

1. Ambergris


Starring Kim So Hye, former IOI, this web drama produced by Samsung is set in 2053, where all of humanity is now enjoying the fruits of scientific and technological progress. However, there is ‘one thing’ that has not been solved by mankind, and this problem has left all society in a state of gloom and despair.

2. Sisyphus: The Myth

3. The Silent Sea


The Silent Sea is set in a time in the future when planet Earth suffers from a shortage of water and food caused by desertification. Han Yun Jae (Gong Yoo) is a soldier for the space agency.

He is chosen for a team, including Song Ji An (Bae Doo Na), to travel to the moon. Their mission is to retrieve a mysterious sample from an abandoned research station.

4. Sweet Home


This horror genre drama is about Cha Hyun Soo (Song Kang) leaving his home and moving into an apartment after an unexpected family tragedy. Soon after, the monsters started trying to exterminate the human race.

The people inside the apartment are trapped inside the building, realizing that monsters are hiding everywhere outside. Hyun Soo and the other residents protect themselves inside the building in hopes of surviving as long as they can.

5. The Devil Judge


Starring Ji Sung, The Devil Judge revolves around everyday life being chaotic and society has collapsed to the point where people openly voice their distrust and hatred for their leaders.

In a world deprived of law and order, a Presiding Judge hints at the need for change. His courtroom is the subject of a reality show where he mercilessly punishes the guilty, earning him the nickname ‘Demon Judge’.
