In October 2021, Sony made a breakthrough by launching the Xperia 5 III. This smartphone was only marketed in the United States last month. As we all know, Sony packs the smartphone with Snapdragon 888 and features an impressive triple camera setup.

Now, rumors are circulating that the Japanese electronics giant is working on the next device in the Xperia 5 lineup dubbed the Xperia 5 IV. Not a few doubt that the Xperia 5 IV will be a compact smartphone, and will be the “toughest opponent” for its competitors.

According to leaks circulating on Weibo, the Sony Xperia 5 IV will come with a 6.1-inch screen. In order to keep the screen from being easily scratched, Sony will protect it with Gorilla Glass Victus. Interestingly, this scratch-resistant glass sheet will also be embedded on the back of the device.

The main improvement that Sony will offer on this device is the motor support. Yes! This smartphone by Sony will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus chipset, which will be built on the basis of TSMC’s 4nm node rather than Samsung’s 4nm node.

The battery is also said to get a slight increase in capacity compared to the Xperia 5 III, which only has a 4,500 mAh battery. So, we can expect there will be a 4,700 mAh battery embedded by Sony in this smartphone.

Not much will change in the camera department according to the leak. The smartphone will sport the same triple camera setup on the back as its predecessor. It consists of a 12 MP main camera (Sony IMX557) with OIS, a 12 MP ultra-wide camera (Sony IMX363) and a 12 MP telephoto camera (Sony IMX663).

Information on Weibo also hints that the Sony Xperia 5 IV will be priced at 5,000 Yuan (Rp. 11 million), which is much cheaper than the Sony Xperia 5 III. However, one thing that must be remembered, the information above is still a rumor and it’s good we still wait for Sony to speak about this smartphone.
