Michael Masi, former F1 race director received death threats following the controversial 2021 Formula 1 finale in Abu Dhabi.

INDOSPORT.COM – Michael Masi, former F1 race director received death threats following the controversial 2021 Formula 1 finale in Abu Dhabi.

Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner claims that former FIA race director Michael Masi received death threats following his “act” in the Abu Dhabi final in 2021.

Last week, the man from Australia was sacked as race director after his decision regarding his safety car at the Yas Marina circuit.

The decision left Max Verstappen at the forefront and overtook arch-rival Lewis Hamilton in the last-round fight.

As a result, Hamilton also failed to break the record to become the 8th F1 world champion and Masi was attacked for his actions which were considered fatal.

Christian Horner, whose driver Verstappen won his first title in Abu Dhabi, revealed that Michael Masi was the target of assassination.

Horner also revealed that the Masi family were also targeted for assassination after the 2021 Formula 1 season ended.

“The lack of support shown to Michael is very disappointing, especially for mental health issues that are important,” Horner told the press, quoted by Marca.

“Hearing that his family and he received death threats is certainly not justified.”

“A lot of pressure was put on the FIA to handle the case. I explained at last week’s meeting in London that there should be more support for him. I am disappointed that no one wants to express that opinion.

“I have spoken to Michael to wish him the best. But the whole experience was very, very difficult for him.”
