VIVA – The International Judo Federation (IJF) issued a decision to remove all important posts and positions held by Russian President Vladimir Putin from the organization as a result of sanctions for the country’s military intervention in Ukraine, Monday 7 March 2022.

In this decision, not only President Putin lost his position as honorary president of the IJF, but also a Russian businessman named Arkady Rotenberg also suffered the same fate.

“The International Judo Federation announces that Mr Vladimir Putin and Mr Arkady Rotenberg have been removed from all positions held at the federation,” the IJF said in a statement.

The decision was announced in a brief statement following the suspension imposed on Putin as honorary president of the IJF last week.

While billionaire Rotenberg, has been on the IJF Executive Committee as development manager since 2013.

The Federation did not mention explicitly that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was the main reason, but did mention the suspension of Putin’s post as honorary president of the IJF in connection with the ongoing war conflict.
Putin was also stripped of the honorary taekwondo black belt awarded in 2013 by World Taekwondo, as well as the honorary title awarded by the world swimming federation in 2014.
