TRIBUNNEWS.COM, KIEV – The UK has issued more than 3,000 visas to Ukrainian citizens through a protection scheme.

British Foreign Secretary Michael Gove told Sophy Ridge on Sky News that the number was up from 1,000 on Thursday (10/3/2022).

From Tuesday, the majority of Ukrainian citizens no longer need to apply for a visa, they only need a Ukrainian passport.

Gove estimates tens of thousands of people could come from Ukraine, a number far fewer than the 1.5 million in Poland and France’s 50,000 to 100,000.

“We want to make sure that every available bed that we have in this country, every possible home that can be made available to people fleeing the invasion of Ukraine,” he said.

Michael Gove said many people in the country are generous in providing homes for refugees from Ukraine.

“We said we would act for you,” he said.

“We will not only provide payment, but ensure they have the opportunity to work, and get support from the NHS, from education and other services they need,” he said. (Guardian)
