TCL has a bidirectional foldable phone. This means it can be folded in and out allowing for 360 degree use.
TCL’s latest concept phone is able to fold in and out, providing multiple functions when in use. The eye-catching prototype device was showcased during the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022 in Barcelona, Spain. This concept phone is part of a series of different devices showcased by TCL during MWC 2022.
This dual fold concept phone is called Ultra Flex and has a hinge that rotates 360 degrees and a flexible screen that adapts to the folds of the screen. It should be noted that the 360 degree folding mechanism will put a lot of stress on the strip above the hinge and it is not clear how this will be measured in a stress test. Some experts think that Ultra Flex may be prone to damage.
Reported from Gizmochina (1/3), as a concept phone can not be said with certainty whether this phone will pass all the hurdles to become a commercial product that is ready to use. Despite the look that TCL hasn’t shown yet, this phone still has a lot of work to do. Overall, it is believed that Ultra Flex may still be far from being a commercial product.
In order to have a dual foldable screen, TCL confirms that the phone combines the methods used from both types of foldable devices, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Huawei’s first version of the Mate X. TCL says the UltraFlex will offer the benefits of both brands, but the fold-out functionality seems difficult to grasp.
