Netflix will soon bring a new Korean series Hellbound on November 19th. Consisting of six episodes, this series tells the story of the appearance of otherworldly beings who curse humans to hell. This supernatural event also causes chaos and makes a religious group called The New Truth increasingly powerful. With its influence expanding, this group then clashes with those who try to uncover the truth.
Prior to its release, Hellbound released the latest trailer that shows human confusion due to supernatural events that have never been imagined before. After a mysterious creature handed down a curse sentence, hell was incarnated in the crowded city of Seoul when a number of otherworldly creatures appeared and took human lives. By claiming that the supernatural event was God’s warning to sinners, The New Truth group further demonstrated its power. The conflict between those who are labeled as sinners with a group of people who worship The New Truth even more fuels the chaos that causes sharp disputes.
Director Yeon Sang-ho commented that “Hellbound is a story about humans at its core”, so the various groups depicted in the series make it a very deep story. To bring the characters to life, Hellbound stars a series of well-known actors such as Yoo Ah-in as Jung Jinsu who is determined to do whatever it takes to prove his belief. His charismatic and mysterious character adds to the strangeness of the supernatural events in this series. Meanwhile, actress Kim Hyun-joo described the character of lawyer Min Hye Jin as “a person who believes in the power of God but decides to choose to stand with mankind”.
Park Jung-min plays Bae Youngjae who struggles to uncover the truth about The New Truth in order to protect his family. He described this character as “a person who brings authentic elements into the Hellbound worldview that feels real”. Won Jin-ah who plays Bae Youngjae’s wife, Song Sohyun, shows the reaction of a person who is immersed in suffering when his family members are cursed. “I focused on the explosion of inner conflicts and all the feelings that came up,” she says. Actor Yang Ik-june plays detective Jin Kyunghun who investigates various horrific events in the series. He describes the struggle of a father to protect his son from all the chaos that occurs, as well as his instincts as a policeman.
Hellbound is an adaptation of the popular webtoon directed by Yeon Sang-ho (Train to Busan, Peninsula) and managed to attract worldwide attention after being screened at various well-known film festivals this year, including the Toronto International Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, and BFI London Film Festival. . Don’t miss Hellbound’s premiere on November 19, only on Netflix.
