As in previous years, ahead of the most prestigious award event in the world of cinema, the Oscars, quality films which in their successful circulation have received high praise from critics and film audiences have been chosen to be the flagship at the event which will be held on 27 March. What are the films that have the opportunity to be featured as candidates for the most awards at the 2022 Oscars? The following are the titles and brief information of the strong candidates for the 2022 Oscars.

King Richard

Oscar 2022 strong candidateDirected by Reinaldo Marcus Green and written by Zach Baylin, King Richard is a biographical film about a black man as he trains his daughter to become a successful sportsman. Williams, played by Will Smith, is best known as the father and coach of Venus and Serena Williams. In fact, the two athletes served as executive producers for King Richard. King Richard was nominated for 6 different Oscars this year. In addition to the Best Picture award, Will Smith has been nominated for Best Actor and Aunjanue Ellis for Best Supporting Actress. King Richard received nominations for Film Editing, Writing for Original Screenplay, and Original Song.

Belfast

Oscar 2022 strong candidateWritten and directed by Kenneth Brannagh, this 2022 Oscar nominee film explores the ideological war between Protestants and Catholics in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1960. Belfast tells the story through the eyes of Buddy, a 9-year-old Protestant boy who falls in love with Catherine, a friend. Catholic classmate. Belfast is a future story that doubles as a picture of the Belfast that Kenneth Brannagh experienced during his childhood. Belfast has been described by its director as “the most personal film” and his love for the project is reflected in its quality. Belfast received 7 Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Ciarán Hinds, Best Supporting Actress for Judi Dench, Directing, Sound, Writing (Original Screenplay), and Original Song.

West Side Story

Oscar 2022 strong candidateLike the story of Romeo and Juliet, Tony and Maria love each other despite the fierce feud between their families. West Side Story, based on the 1957 musical, follows the chaos that ensues when two teenagers decide to act on their feelings. West Side Story was directed by Stephen Spielberg and adapted by Tony Kushner. West Side Story has received good reviews for its new perspective on music. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has nominated West Side Story for 7 different Oscars: Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress for Ariana DeBose, Cinematography, Costume Design, Directing, Production Design, and Sound.

Dune

Dune, like its adaptation of the source novel, depicts the story of Paul Atreides. Paul’s family moves to Arrakis, a desert planet that has no water but has many Spices, precious ingredients. Dune is a sci-fi adventure with the heroic archetype at the center of the discussion. Dune also serves as a drama about political intrigue and the interactions between politics, religion, ecology, and many other social dimensions. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune is the first part of a two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novels. This strong Oscar 2022 candidate received 10 nominations for the 94th Oscars in most categories involving film production: Best Picture, Cinematography, Writing (Adapted Screenplay), Costume Design, Film Editing, Makeup, and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Production Design, Sound, and Visual Effects. The Power Of The Dog, by Jane Campion, features Benedict Cumberbatch as Phil Burbank. Phil is a ruthless rancher who terrorizes his own family to hide his own insecurities. The Power Of The Dog explores universal topics such as love, sadness and self-identity, having been widely praised for its story and performances. The Power Of The Dog was the first film directed by a woman to ever receive more than 10 Oscar nominations, it earned 12. These include Best Picture, Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch, Best Supporting Actor for Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smith-McPhee, Best Supporting Actress for Kirsten Dunst, Cinematography, Directing, Film Editing, Music (Original Score), Production Design, Sound, and Writing (Adapted Screenplay).
