VIVA – It’s not complete if you don’t mention the name of Yohannes Christian John or who is familiarly called Chris John in the ranks of Indonesia’s best boxers. Even though he has retired, the figure of The Dragon is timeless, his name still smells good to this day.
The boxer who was born in Banjarnegara has been poor across the national boxing ring to the world. He carved a series of achievements and was listed as the first boxer in the country to become the featherweight world champion.
World-class boxers have been hit by the same name as the king of the WBA and IBF featherweights, Juan Manuel Marquez. The Banjarnegara-born boxer made his professional debut in 1998 and retired in 2013.
Chris John Defends Title
Throughout his career, Chris John underwent 52 fights. The details are fantastic, Chris John won 48 times (22 KOs), drew 3 and lost only once. Hard and fast blows have taken many victims.
One of the phenomenal duels of ‘The Dragon’ was when he clashed with boxer Shoji Kimura. The duel was held in May 2012 at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.
Chris John was able to dominate the course of the fight. However, The Dragon has yet to show a ‘Dragon Punch’ which is capable of bringing down its opponent.
In the first round, both boxers still appear cautious. The new battle runs interestingly when entering the second. In this round, Chris John’s two hard hooks landed heavily on Shoji Kimura’s face. But Kimura was still able to survive. Kimura was getting more and more depressed in the third round. The barrage of blows from Chris John forced the boxer from the Land of Sakura to endure more and continue to try to embrace The Dragon. Kimura’s strategy continued until he entered the fourth round.
