The Riddler’s Secret Website Invites Fans to Find New Clues for The Batman

  • Share

Riddler seems to have crossed the line between reality and fiction with a new secret website promoting movies The Batman directed by Matt Reeves. Although some fans had discovered the secret site earlier in the month, the page now features a puzzle game that “rewards” fans with some Batman sketches published by the Gotham City Police Department.

As we know, marketing campaign The Batman centered around a mind challenge created by Riddler (Paul Dano) with the villain trying to prove that he is superior to Batman. So, as soon as some strange symbols appeared in promotional material for The Batman, fans tried to decipher the code, hoping to find clues to the film’s plot. It turned out that the secret message was spelled “You are el rata alada,” or “You are the winged rat” in English. And you know what “You are el” sounds like? Well, “URL”, as in “website address.” That’s how fans can access secret sites registered under the domain”www.rataalada.com“, which contains only static and a big question mark — at least until yesterday.

The website simulates a live conversation with the Riddler while fans try to find answers to some clever questions. Answering three questions resulted in a new link leading to a series of sketches of Batman created by the Gotham City Police Department. But perhaps the most interesting development is that Riddler promises to return at the end of the game, meaning its website may be updated again before the film hits theaters next year.

For those of you who are curious, the answer to the riddle is:

  • “Those who make me are likely to break me” — Law
  • “I can be easy or a dead end. Careful when you cross me.”— Street
  • “What’s black and blue and dead all over?” — Batman

Along with Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, this film also stars Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, Colin Farrell as Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jeffery Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Barry Keoghan as Gotham police officer Stanley Merkel, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, and Alex Ferns as Commissioner Pete Savage, as well as Gil Perez-Abraham, Charlie and Max Carver, Rupert Penry-Jones, and Con O’Neill. The Batman hits theaters on March 4, 2022.
