VIVA – Candidates for the Indonesian Basketball National Team in the 2022 Asian Basketball Cup will soon be known. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has set the time for the draw for the tournament.
The parent of the world basketball federation confirmed that the draw will be made on Friday, 18 February 2022. Meanwhile, the Basketball Asian Cup will be held on 12-24 July 2022.
There are 16 teams that will participate in this tournament. They are hosts Indonesia, defending champions Australia, Bahrain, China, Chinese Taipei, India, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Lebanon, New Zealand, Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Syria.
Later, the 16 teams will be divided into four groups. Each group will consist of four teams. The drawing procedure and team selection will be announced prior to the draw.

The chairman of the 2022 Asian Basketball Cup Organizing Committee, Junas Miradiarsyah, welcomed the holding of the draw. This is because this draw is FIBA’s first step this year to ensure that the championship, which was postponed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, can be held according to a predetermined schedule.
“We welcome the group drawing for the 2022 Asian Basketball Cup because this is the stage towards holding the prestigious Asian basketball championship in our country. We hope that the drawing will run smoothly,” Junas was quoted as saying on the official Perbasi website.
