Blumhouse Productions has just released the poster for the movie The Black Phone which is pretty scary. The poster features the figure of Ethan Hawke in white face paint and a strange mask that is gruesome and horrifying enough to give horror movie fans the creeps.
Previously Universal and Blumhouse Productions had set a release date for the director-directed film Doctor Strange, Scott Derrickson the. The Black Phone premiered on September 25, at Fantastic Fest before being screened at Beyond Fest this October. This new horror-thriller film will be released widely on January 28, 2022.
The Black Phone focuses on a kidnapped boy, John Finney, and hidden in the basement by an assassin. Finney is locked in a cellar filled with bloodstains from half a dozen other children who have been murdered. In the basement is an antique telephone that no longer works, but can still ring at night with calls from the dead.
This film is expected to be a Blumhouse production that will be able to reap success. In an interview with Collider in June, Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum described the film as “one of the scariest films” his company has ever made. The first trailer of the film was also shown at CinemaCon last month, and the result is that they managed to produce a horror offering that is quite promising.
The script for this film was written by Derrickson along with C. Robert Cargill. FYI, the script will be based/developed from a short story written by Joe Hill. Besides Ethan Hawke, this film also stars Jeremy Davies, James Ransone, Madeleine McGraw, Jacob Moran, Jordan Isaiah White, and Brady Hepner.
This film will project Derrickson’s return to the horror genre. Previously he directed Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Roseand Deliver Us From Evil which was quite successful before turning to Marvel Studios superhero films, Doctor Strange.
