Star Wars: Visions New Teaser Introduces Heroes in the Anime Series

To welcome the serial release Star Wars: Visions which will begin airing on September 22, Disney and Lucasfilm have unveiled a new teaser showing the main heroes or protagonists of the upcoming anime anthology series.

This teaser gives fans a look at the very different aesthetics that will be featured in Star Wars: Vision. This was made possible thanks to the contributions of the seven different anime studios working on this project.

Uploaded via the official Star Wars Twitter page, the short video shows stills of the main characters in Star Wars: Visions combined with the Star Wars theme song. And to top it off, in a recent interview with executive producer Josh Rimes and producer Kanako Shirasaki conducted by StarWars.com, they explained some of the heroes featured in the teaser.

Karre is the protagonist of the short film “The Twins.” He is a boy who escaped the dark side’s upbringing and is now against his sister Am. “Karre was created by a dark side force plotting the powerful twins to rule the galaxy,” said Shirasaki. “However, Karre made her own choice to free herself from the life that was designed by those around her.”

Then there’s Ronin, who is inspired by samurai stories and films. “Ronin is a wanderer, an anti-hero, a mysterious warrior who was directly influenced by Toshiro Mifune and Kurosawa films like Yojimbo,” said Rimes. “He exists in a world that is a fusion of the old Kurosawa movies, manga, Westerns, and Star Wars in a feudal-style world full of remnant stormtroopers and alien bodyguards — and his sidekick is a straw hat assassin droid.” He will clash with the unnamed Sith Bandit Leader, who many fans will likely recognize as the character with the rotating lightsaber umbrella seen in the series’ official trailer.

Star Wars: Visions is a series of animated short films, presenting the Star Wars galaxy through the lens of the world’s best Japanese anime creators. All of them will hit Disney+ in 2021. Vision will be produced through different Japanese animation studios as an anthology consisting of nine short films, each studio being given the freedom to create an original story but still close to the myth of this galaxy war story.

The nine-episode series will include short films by studios Kinema Citrus (Made in Abyss), Science SARU (DEVILMAN crybaby), Production IG (Ghost in the Shell) and Trigger (Promare, Kill la Kill). If you’ve ever watched work from any of these studios, you’ll know that their sensibilities and visual style fit perfectly into the world of Star Wars while bringing something unique that we’ve never seen before.

Here are the episode titles and the studios working on them:

  1. Kamikaze Douga – The Duel
  2. Geno Studio (Twin Engine) – Lop and Ochō
  3. Studio Colorido (Twin Engine) – Tatooine Rhapsody
  4. Trigger – The Twins
  5. Trigger – The Elder
  6. Kinema Citrus – The Village Bride
  7. Science Saru – Akakiri
  8. Science Saru – T0-B1
  9. Production IG – The Ninth Jedi

Some of these titles promise quite an interesting premise like Production IG’s The Ninth Jedi, which is set in a distant future where the Jedi have become legends and the world needs them back because darkness threatens the galaxy, in a story that sounds like the story of the Seven Samurai but in a world of Star Wars. Meanwhile, The Village’s Bride will present a love story between an outcast Jedi and his partner who takes many elements of Japanese folklore. And Akakiri, which was worked on by Science Saru, which featured the story of a Jedi who met a princess.
