Working as a parking attendant, Shang-Chi, played by Simu Liu lives his daily life in San Francisco with his best friend Katy, played by Awkwafina. When a group of criminals take a locket that his late mother gave him, Shang-Chi leaves his life in the United States and travels to Macau (Macao) to warn Shang-Chi’s sister Xialing that danger is also coming for him. As it turns out, Shang-Chi has to face a past he’s been trying to forget. When drawn into the network of the mysterious ‘Ten Rings’ organization led by his own father, Shang-Chi realizes that he must stop the ‘Ten Rings’ gang.

After graduating from college, Simu Liu started his career as an accountant. When he finally loses his job and becomes unemployed, Simu Liu decides to audition as an extra for a film. In addition to being an extra in the film, Simu Liu has also starred in several music videos. After building his career little by little, Simu Liu finally managed to land a lead role in a Canadian comedy series called “Kim’s Convenience”, however, he admits that it never occurred to him to be the main character in any of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
After being cast for the role of Shang-Chi, Simu Liu had the opportunity to read the script of the film. He had cried while reading the script because he felt the story that was written was so close to him. “I cried because there is such a strong relationship between Shang-Chi, his character, and his family. I realized, in the end this film is a film about family. I cry because we can see a hero from Asia perform various heroic acts and save the world. It was a very precious moment for me as a fan, actor, and Asian,” explained Simu Liu. Simu Liu then continued his journey with initial physical training for 4 months.

Each fight scene not only shows the scenario of the fight, but also depicts emotional moments and becomes a part of the story. Each action scene in this film contains various meanings for each character. For example when Shang-Chi’s parents Wenwu and Li met for the first time and had a fight to gauge each other’s strength. In preparation for this film, Simu Liu studied traditional Chinese Kung Fu, elements of Wushu and Hong Quan, as well as Muay Thai and Silat, Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu, boxing as well as street fighting.
