VIVA – Newly crowned world number one Daniil Medvedev won his first match after beating Tomas Machac 6-3 6-2 to advance to the third round of the Indian Wells tournament, Saturday local time (Sunday, 13 March 2022).
Medvedev’s hard serve and almost impenetrable defense proved too strong for his Czech qualifier opponent on a hot day in the Southern California desert.
The Russian received a warm welcome from the crowd at Stadium One when he was introduced as world number one after the match.
