Russian Air Strike on Ukrainian Military Base Kills 35 People, Injures 134

TRIBUNNEWS.COM – Russia fired a missile near the city of Lviv and hit a large military base near the Polish border on Sunday (13/3/2022).

The missile attack killed dozens of people and brought the war closer to the borders of the NATO nation.

As the invasion enters its third week, the northwestern city of Lviv has been largely under relentless bombardment by the Russians.

The city is now a gathering place for Ukrainian refugees.

Hundreds of thousands of them have flooded the city in search of safety, with many using it as a stopping point before reaching the Polish border some 43 miles away.

Quoted from CNNRussian troops fired more than 30 missiles at the Yavoriv military training ground on Sunday, according to the Lviv military administration.

Located between Lviv and the Polish border, the military base has held joint exercises with NATO and Western military personnel, including the United States.

A witness, who was at the base when the attack occurred, said he heard a “sudden explosion” from the bomb shelter.

He added that the blast crater was 10 meters deep and there were concerns people were under the rubble.

Local authorities said 35 people were killed and 134 injured at the military base, in what Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov described as a “terrorist attack” on peace and security “near the EU-NATO border.”
