TRIBUNNEWS.COM – Russia has asked China for help for military support, including drones, as well as economic assistance for the invasion of Ukraine.
This was conveyed by two United States (US) officials to CNN.
Potential assistance from China would be a significant development in a Russian invasion.
That could reverse Ukraine’s lingering power, as well as provide a counterbalance to tough sanctions imposed on Russia’s economy.
However, Liu Pengyu, a spokesman for the Chinese embassy in the US, said in a statement he had not heard the news.
“The high priority now is to prevent the tense situation from escalating or even spiraling out of control.”
“China calls for complete restraint and averting a massive humanitarian crisis,” he said Monday (14/3/2022). CNN.

US will persuade China not to supply weapons to Russia
The United States will try to persuade China not to supply Russia with weapons at a high-level meeting in Rome which the White House deems to be vital, not only to the war in Ukraine but also to the future of the global balance of power.
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will meet his Chinese counterpart, Yang Jiechi, in the Italian capital, amid reports that Russia has requested weapons from China to bolster its faltering invasion of Ukraine.
