VIVA – The Indonesian women’s badminton team, which was initially underestimated, became the group winner. In the last match of the preliminary round of Group Z Badminton Asia Team Championships 2022, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung et al, managed to bend South Korea.
In a match at the Setia City Convention Center, Selangor, Malaysia, Thursday evening 17 February 2022, the women of the Garuda Muda Squad successfully overthrew the Ginseng Country team with a score of 3-2. Previously, Indonesia won 4-1 over Hong Kong and outperformed Kazakhstan 5-0.
The certainty of Indonesia as the group winner was determined by Stephanie Widjaja who appeared in the fifth party after overcoming Kim Joo Eun, 21-11 and 21-13.
Previously, Gregoria brought Indonesia a 1-0 lead after beating Sim Yu Jin. Through good performances, especially in the opening game, the captain of the Indonesian women’s team won 21-6, 21-18.
“Thank God I was able to play well and donate points. Earlier in the first game, my game was as planned, while the opponent made a lot of mistakes himself,” said Gregoria as quoted from the official PBSI statement, Friday, February 18, 2022.
Gregoria’s appearance in the opening game was indeed shiny. The opponent can’t do much. Variations in attack and not making many mistakes, led him to an easy win with a score of 21-6.
Unfortunately in the second game, Gregoria seemed to lose focus. He follows the pattern of the opponent’s slow play. Adaptation to the field is also disrupted. After winning 12-6, it could even be overtaken.
