VIVA – The Indonesian badminton team athlete admitted that he was nervous about his debut match at the 2022 Asian Team Badminton Championships (BATC). However, this member of the Garuda Muda Squad is optimistic to perform optimally and contribute points.

Of the 20 male and female players who were sent to compete in the Setia City Convention Center, Selangor, Malaysia, 15-20 February, most of them were players who were competing in the senior team championship for the first time. Only a few have appeared in team events such as Daniel Marthin, Leo Rolly Carnando, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, and Putri Kusuma Wardani at the 2020 Thomas and Uber Cup in Denmark.

Now, a number of new names will be ready to make their debut or make their first appearance to strengthen the Indonesian team in the Asian Team Championship. They welcomed it with pride and optimism.

“I am very happy and proud to have the opportunity to participate in this team competition. This can be a new experience and a new lesson for the future,” said the men’s doubles player, Muhammad Shohibul Fikri to the PBSI Public Relations Team at the Sunway Clio Hotel, Selangor, Thursday February 10, 2022.

“I’m also very proud because I was selected to join the BATC team. I want to perform optimally and give the best results and hopefully every time I’m down I can contribute points to the team,” said Bagas Maulana, Fikri’s partner, based on a written statement received by VIVA.

Yonathan Ramlie, the men’s singles player, also said he was happy. But, frankly, he felt tense and scared because this was his first time appearing in the senior team event.

“I was afraid because this was my first time joining the BATC team. But I was quite confident because I felt that the preparations were quite good. Even though they were quarantined, there was still a training program from the coach,” said Yonathan.
