PROFILE Ivan Fedorov, Mayor of Melitopol Ukraine Kidnapped by Russia, Still Young at 33 Years Old

TRIBUNNEWS.COM The mayor of Melitopol, Ukraine, Ivan Fedorov, is said to have disappeared after being kidnapped.

The kidnapping of Ivan Fedorov was caught on video.

The incident that occurred on Friday (11/3/2022) shows Ivan Fedorov, seen in the video being carried away from the city government building by armed men.

Melitopol is a city in southern Ukraine located between the besieged city of Mariupol and the city of Kherson which is now occupied by Russia.

Russian troops occupied Melitopol days after the invasion began, quoted Tribunnews from CNN.

Now Russia claims to have occupied the city.

After Ivan Fedorov was kidnapped, a new mayor, Galina Danilchenko, a former city council member, was sworn in in the Ukrainian city of Melitopol, which is under Russian military control.

The Russia-backed Luhansk regional prosecutor claimed that Fedorov had committed terrorism offences and was being investigated.

According to a message on the Luhansk prosecutor’s website, Fedorov was accused of aiding and financing terrorist activities and being part of a criminal community.

Fedorov’s detention by armed men is the first case in which a Ukrainian political official has been detained by Russia, or Russian-backed forces, since the invasion began.
