PBSI Deploys Young Players in Badminton Asia Team Championship

VIVA – After announcing the new national training athletes, PBSI immediately moved quickly to prepare the Indonesian badminton team to achieve the highest achievement. The first tournament that will definitely be followed this year is the Badminton Asia Team Championship which will take place on February 15-20 in Malaysia.

The difference is, in the event which is also known as the Thomas and Uber Cup qualifiers, Indonesia surprisingly fielded young players. There are no names like Anthony Ginting, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo.

Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo is the oldest player in the men’s squad at the age of 23. Meanwhile, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung is the most senior heroine in the women’s team at the age of 22. Head of Division and Achievement of PP PBSI, Rionny Mainaky, said this decision was taken to provide experience for young badminton players.

“In this event, we do provide opportunities for young players to feel the atmosphere of the team championship,” said Rionny in a PBSI release received VIVA.

“This is PBSI’s policy that it wants to orbit young players. One of them is by testing them in this tournament, apart from being an assessment and evaluation event for preparation for the Thomas and Uber Cup finals later,” he continued.

Rionny said that Garuda Muda had been preparing for two weeks. He is also optimistic that the players will be able to talk a lot in the biennial event.
