VIVA – Airlangga Hartarto was elected by acclamation to become the General Chair of the Indonesian Wushu Executive Board (PB WI) for the period 2022-2026. He received the mandate at the National Conference (Munas) which took place in Jakarta, Friday, January 28, 2022.
A total of 31 WI Provincial Management (Pengprov) agreed to choose Airlangga as the sole candidate. The reason is that commitment and real work to build Indonesian wushu achievements have become advantages while serving as General Chair of PB WI for the 2017-2021 period.
The head of the DKI Jakarta WI Pengprov, Tjokro Gunawan, said that Airlangga really understood the ideal of sports development by prioritizing the gym in building wushu sports achievements.
Through the Taolu Virtual National Circuit which was held in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia is no longer short of potential junior athletes who will be deployed to face international events in the future.
The junior athletes who emerge from the gym in the future will be fostered in a continuous national training using promotion and relegation that will be able to replace the position of the Queen of World Wushu, Lindswel Kwok and Edgar Xavier Marvelo who have also won the world title and contributed gold medals at the SEA Games.
“What has been built by Pak Airlangga Hartarto has resulted in international achievements so that wushu is included in the list of 14 priority sports for the Great Design of National Sports (DBON). Hopefully, wushu will be competed in the 2032 Olympics so that what has been built at this time can produce maximum achievements, ” said Tjokro Gunawan.
