New Line and WB Reveals Release Date of Animated Film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim

For those who are not quite satisfied with the presence of the live-action series The Lord of the Rings On the upcoming Amazon, it is now confirmed that there will be an animated film from this franchise entitled The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. While they still haven’t released the trailer and other information regarding the animated film, they do have a release date of April 12, 2024.

The film, which is a joint project with Warner Bros Animation and New Line Cinema, was directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Blade Runner: Black Lotus) and produced by Philippa Boyens (The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit trilogy). Along with the announcement of the release date, Warner Bros. also shared a cool concept art from the film.

According to reports from Varietythe studio also stated that the voice cast will be announced soon. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will be set about two centuries before the events in the film The Hobbit and will “explore the Hammerhand Helmet, the story of King Rohan, and the creation of Helm’s Deep.” For information, Helm’s Deep itself is one of the most featured locations in the film The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers directed by Peter Jackson.

Kenji Kamiyama, known for his work on Blade Runner: Black Lotus and Star Wars: Visions, will direct the project through his studio, Sola Entertainment. Head of Warner Bros. Pictures, Toby Emmerich talked about the film and, why they chose Kamiyama.

“The film ‘Lord of the Rings’ takes Tolkien’s masterpiece to a new cinematic level and manages to inspire a generation,” Emmerich said. “It has been a godsend to be able to revisit Middle-earth with so many creative visionaries with the same vision and Kenji Kamiyama has such an amazing talent to be at the helm. It will be an epic depiction unlike anything audiences have ever seen.”
