Netflix Reveals First Look Teaser and Character Poster for The Sandman Series

Netflix has finally released the first look and teaser of the series’ dreamland The Sandman which was launched as part of last weekend’s TUDUM: A Netflix Global Fan Event. The giant streamer released a first look teaser clip and three new character posters for the series, which is based on Neil Gaiman’s comic book series.

If the first look teaser features a group of people performing a mysterious ritual that turns out to be done to summon Dream, then the three character posters show off the trio of siblings that are the backdrop for the show’s fantasy story: Dream (Tom Sturridge), Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), and Desire. (Mason Alexander Park).

Live-action series The Sandman will star Tom Sturridge (Sweetbitter) as Dream, the Lord of the Dreaming; Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) as Lucifer, ruler of Hell; Vivienne Acheampong (The Witches) as Lucienne, the librarian and trusted guardian of the Dream realm; Boyd Holbrook (Logan) as The Corinthian, a nightmare runaway who wants to taste everything in the world; Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) as Roderick Burgess, a con artist, blackmailer, and magician; Asim Chaudhry (Black Mirror: Bandersnatch), and Sanjeev Bhaskar (Yesterday) as Abel and Cain, the first victims and first predators, who are loyal residents and subjects of the Dream Realm.

Meanwhile, the series also features Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Killing Eve, Cruella) as Death, Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck) as Ethel Cripps, David Thewlis (Harry Potter film) as John Dee, Stephen Fry (Wilde) as Gilbert , Patton Oswalt (Ratatouille) voices the character Matthew the Raven, and Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) as Johanna Constantine. Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Razane Jammal, Niamh Walsh, Kyo Ra, and Sandra James Young will play Desiree, Despair, Lyta Hall, Young Ethel Cripps, Rose Walker, and Unity Kincaid.

The Netflix series will be based on a graphic novel by Neil Gaiman which has run for 75 editions from 1989-1996. Story The Sandman follows the main character Dream, also known as Morpheus, a conceptual entity who is struggling with his existence in the universe. He is one of the seven Endless, with those consisting of Destiny, Death, Desire, Despair, Delirium, formerly Delight, and Destruction. Sandman is a story about the power of stories and how they can evolve, and how Morpheus, Lord of Dreams, is captured and then learns that change is often unavoidable.

Set in 2021, this 11-episode series will focus on Morpheus after being imprisoned for 105 years who then rises and tries to restore his fallen kingdom and return to his realm. The Sandman described as a rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy where contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven.
