First declared on November 12, 2016 in Surakarta, Central Java, National Father’s Day may not have a long history in Indonesia. Renowned actor and comedian Kevin Hart showcases his skills that are rarely revealed in this film. Fatherhood is the story of a father named Matt Logelin (Hart) who raises his son when he is faced with grief. His wife dies shortly after he gives birth to their child, Maddy (Melody Hurd), and Matt is determined to be the perfect parent. But it didn’t take long for him to realize that he needed people around him to be a good father to his son. Adapted from the best-selling memoir Two Kisses for Maddy: A Memoir of Loss and Love by Matthew Logelin, Fatherhood is a sweet and warm story about a father who would do anything for his family.
Sweet Girl

Featuring actor Jason Momoa as a devoted father and husband named Ray Cooper, this action-packed drama film shows how far a person is willing to go for his family. Ray has to lose his wife (Adria Arjona) who is suffering from cancer when a pharmaceutical company suddenly withdraws a drug that has the potential to save his wife’s life. When Ray’s attempt to uncover the truth later puts the lives of his daughter (Isabela Merced) and himself at risk, he is determined to avenge him. This film presents a variety of thrilling scenes and a plot twist that will leave the audience in awe. Sweet Girl is directed by Brian Andrew Mendoza and also stars Justin Bartha, Amy Brenneman, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Raza Jaffrey.
18 Again

When his wife asks for a divorce, her twins start to ignore her, and she herself loses her job, Hong Dae-young (Yoon Sang-hyun) realizes that he has to start working on his life. Hoping to go back in time so that he can prevent bad things from happening in his life, this 37-year-old man’s wish is suddenly granted. Hong Dae-young then starts a new life as a high school student and slowly discovers a reality that he was not aware of. He also tries to find a way to save his family. Besides Yoon Sang-hyun, this sweet and witty Korean series also stars Kim Ha-neul, Lee Do-hyun, Roh Jeong-eui, and Ryeoun.
The Father Who Moves Mountains

From writer and director Daniel Sandu, this Romanian drama film follows the story of a father who goes to extreme lengths to find his son. Mircea Jianu (Adrian Titieni) is a retired intelligence agent in his 50s who gets word that his son from his first marriage went missing while hiking in the mountains. Mircea is determined to overcome all obstacles, including when the search team can’t find the child or when she has to deal with very unfriendly weather. He also created an independent search team and continued to fight against nature. With beautiful cinematography that presents the beauty of nature as well as the dangers behind it, The Father Who Moves Mountains shows that a father’s love never tire.

When Erwin (Ernest Prakasa) is an inch away from getting a promotion at the office and has the opportunity to work in a neighboring country, his father (Chew Kin Wah) falls ill and bequeaths the family’s grocery store to him. Erwin also changed titles and began to dive into his new job as a shop manager. Over time he is required to make big decisions regarding his future while being overshadowed by his fear of failure. Directed by Ernest who co-wrote the script with Jenny Jusuf and Meira Anastasia, Cek Toko Selahan has meticulously managed to summarize various social and family issues with an insert of humor. The film received nine nominations at the 2017 Indonesian Film Festival, including Best Film and Best Director, as well as the Citra Award for Best Original Screenplay.
