Michael Keaton Joins Batgirl Film Project

Michael Keaton has reportedly been added to the cast for the film Batgirl upcoming release on HBO Max. This was revealed from a Warner Bros. press release. which was posted on their media site which includes a preview of the upcoming film which will premiere in 2022. It looks like Keaton may be reprising his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman after it was confirmed to play the character for the upcoming Flash film starring Ezra Miller.

The Batgirl film project is currently in production in Scotland and will follow the story of classic DC character Barbara Gordon who will become Batgirl. As we know, Leslie Grace has been selected to play the superhero character, with JK Simmons reprising his role as Commissioner James Gordon. Brendan Fraser has also been confirmed to appear in this film to play the villain named Firefly, and Jacob Scipio is also rumored to have joined in this film.

Batgirl planned to be released specifically for HBO Max. The story will follow Barbara Gordon, who is most often portrayed as Batgirl in the DC Comics universe. As the daughter of Commissioner Jim Gordon, Barbara fights crime at night in a Batsuit similar to her father’s friend, Batman. In the DC comics, Barbara is said to be paralyzed after being shot by the Joker, and she continues to help Batman as the Oracle.

The character of Batgirl has appeared in a number of series and films in the past, but this time it gets a live-action film of its own. Previously this character was played by Yvonne Craig in the third season of the series Batman in the 1960s. Decades later, Batgirl is played by Alicia Silverstone in the film Batman & Robin. Jeté Laurence plays Barbara Gordon in the final season of the series Gotham. Barbara Gordon also appeared on Titans season 3 with Savannah Welch in the role.

Batgirl will be directed by the director Bad Boys for Life, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah from a screenplay written by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee, Birds of Prey, The Flash) with Kristin Burr (Cruella) producing. The film will be released exclusively on HBO Max.

For information, character Batgirl first appeared in 1967 as Barbara Gordon, daughter of Commissioner James Gordon, and later she became an ally of Batman and Robin in Gotham City. But before that the character “Bat-Girl” was introduced first to the comics Batman #139 (April 1961) with the alter ego Betty Kane by Bill Finger and Sheldon Moldoff.
