At the DC FanDome event last weekend, Warner Bros. surprise fans about the project Aquaman and the Lost Kingdoma sequel directed by James Wan. Jason Momoaof course, returns as Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, aka King of Atlantis and the film is confirmed to hit theaters December 16, 2022.
This DC Fandome promo clip also shows the first look of the new Black manta costume which looks more fierce and cool. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will again be directed by the creators of Conjuring Universe, James Wan with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick writing the script. The sequel is being produced by Wan and his business partner Peter Safran. Wan previously also teased that this second film will feature a more serious and relevant story with some horror elements.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will also feature the return of Patrick Wilson as Arthur’s brother from Atlantis, Orm, as well as Amber Heard as Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta), Randall Park as Dr Stephen Shin, Temuera Morrison as Arthur’s father, Thomas Curry and Dolph Lundgren as King. As for the tone or aura for this sequel, Wan once said that he was inspired by the Italian horror film entitled Planet of the Vampires. He recently told Total Film, “Aquaman 2 is heavily inspired by Planet of the Vampires. You can get the boy out of the horror but you can never take the horror out of the boy.”
Based on the DC character created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger in 1941, Aquaman has grossed over $1 billion at the global box office, making it one of Warner Bros.’s highest-grossing DC films. The character himself made his live-action film debut with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, and later also appeared in Justice League.
