Lee Jung Jae Wins 2022 Independent Spirit Awards Through Squid Game

Actor Lee Jung Jae is again stealing global attention after winning an international acting award. He took home the 2022 Independent Spirit Awards.

On March 6, 2022 local time, the 37th Independent Spirit Awards 2022 will be held in Santa Monica, California. The event honors some of the best independent films and TV series of 2021.

This year, Lee Jung Jae took home the Best Male Performance in a New Scripted Series award at the 2022 Independent Spirit Awards. He managed to beat a number of big names such as Olly Alexander (It’s a Sin), Michael Greyeyes (Rutherford Falls), Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus), and Ashley Thomas (THEM: Covenant).

This award was received by Lee Jung Jae after the actor made history at the 28th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. He became the first Korean actor to win the Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Drama Series category.

“Oh my God, thank you very much! This is a very big thing that can happen to me,” said Lee Jung Jae when receiving his award.

“I actually wrote something, but I don’t think I will be able to read it. Thank you to the SAG-AFTRA Awards, thank you to the global audience who love Squid Game. Thank you to the Squid Game team too,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Lee Jung Jae has also established a career in the United States after joining the CAA (Creative Artists Agency) agency. The agency is the ‘home’ of a number of top Hollywood actors and actresses such as Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, George Clooney, to director Steven Spielberg.

“With the global CAA network as the foundation, Lee Jung Jae will be more active globally, including in the United States. He will not only be active as an actor, but also a producer and director,” said Artist Company as Lee Jung Jae’s management in South Korea regarding joining the actor at CAA.
