Warner Bros. Pictures has released a new trailer for the movie King Richard which is a biographical drama centered around the father and mentor of international tennis duo Venus and Serena Williams, Richard Williams. The film is currently scheduled to debut on November 19 in theaters and on HBO Max.
From this new trailer, fans can see lots of new footage that highlights the stunning looks Will Smith as a father who has a relentless determination to prove to the world that his two daughters will become the greatest tennis champions of all time. And to complete the feel of the drama, the trailer is also accompanied by the song “Be Alive,” performed by Grammy-winning superstar Beyoncé.
Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green (Monsters and Men) and written by Zach Baylin (Creed III), this sports drama stars Will Smith (Bad Boys) as Richard Williams, Demi Singleton (Godfather of Harlem) as Serena Williams, Saniyya Sidney (The First Lady) as Venus Williams, Aunjanue Ellis (Lovecraft Country) as Brandy Williams, mother of Serena and Venus, Jon Bernthal (The Punisher) as Rick Macci, Tony Goldwyn (Scandal) as Paul Cohen, and Dylan McDermott (Hollywood).
Richard Williams, who has no tennis background, overcame his immense adversity, skepticism and troubled past to raise two of the greatest players in Tennis history. When his daughter was about four years old, Richard Williams drew up a 78-page plan for their professional tennis career. He started giving them tennis lessons and the girls learned the game on the cracked and shabby public court in the Compton area.
The Williams sisters went on to become the two greatest women players in tennis history, with Serena the best, with 23 Grand Slam tournament wins. Venus Williams has won seven Grand Slam titles. A bit of a refresher, Venus and Serena began to assert themselves when Serena won the US Open championship in 1999 and Venus beat Lindsay Davenport to win the Wimbledon title in 2000.
