Franchise star John Wick and The Matrix, Keanu Reeves just gave an interesting update on the live-action adaptation of his comic book, BRZRKR. He said the project would be an action-packed, R-rated extravaganza on Netflix. The streaming giant is currently developing the adaptation along with a follow-up anime series project from BRZRKR.
“We’re going to be working with Netflix which is going to be really cool. They will let us create amazing R rated stories. My ambition or hope is not to make a film version of the comic book so that they will have something in common, but what is certain is the main character and the skills, but we can take it to other places too.”
As Keanu Reeves plans to take the franchise in all new directions, the actor also revealed that his live-action film project has now hired a writer. The BatmanMattson Tomlin to write the script and bring BRZRKR to the big screen.
Reeves himself will be involved in the project as a producer and will definitely star in the live-action film. He will also be involved in the anime series BRZRKR as the voice of the main character.
BRZRKR is a brutal epic saga about the 80,000-year battle of warriors who lived forever through the ages. The man known only as ‘B’ is half human and half god, cursed and forced to commit violence… he even has to sacrifice his sanity. And after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found shelter – working for the US government to carry out tasks and battles deemed too harsh and too dangerous for others. In exchange, B will be given the one thing he wants – the truth about his existence… and how to end it.
Reeves writes comic series BRZRKR the 12-edition together with Matt Kindt of Boom! The studio, which also happens to publish the Bill and Ted comic book series. “I’ve loved comics since I was a kid and they had a significant influence on me artistically,” Reeves said in an official announcement on the Boom! “To have the opportunity to create a BRZRKR and collaborate with industry legends such as writer Matt Kindt, drawing artist Alessandro Vitti, color artist Bill Crabtree, letterer Clem Robins and cover artist Rafael Grampá – along with the greats at BOOM! Studio – is a dream come true.”
The live-action film project will draw on important elements from the comic books while the anime series will serve as a spinoff to explore the different elements of the universe. BRZRKR. While the comic itself was launched on March 3, 2021 and immediately received a positive response and received instant success. And so far the comic has sold more than 615,000 copies, a very high number for an independently published comic.
