VIVA – 23 personnel of the Indonesian Badminton National Team consisting of players, coaches, nutritionists, psychologists, physiotherapists, masseurs, and support teams left for Birmingham, England to take part in the prestigious All England tournament, Friday 11 March 2022.
“Tonight the Indonesian badminton team departs for Birmingham to participate in All England. We go with the best strength. We send all the strongest players we have there,” said national team manager Rionny Mainaky in an official statement from PP PBSI.
The national team was strengthened by top-notch badminton players such as the men’s doubles Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan, Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin, to Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
This composition will also be strengthened by Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Jonatan Christie, Shesar Hiren Rhustavito after participating in the German Open. With full force, Indonesia is expected to bring home the title of the oldest and most prestigious badminton championship which will be held on March 16-20, 2022.
Rionny said that the departure of the national team in this year’s edition was full of optimism and confidence without being overshadowed by the bitter experience experienced last year when he was disqualified due to exposure to COVID-19.
“About whether there was a trauma from last year’s incident, it seems that all the players have forgotten. The experience of being banned from continuing a match like the All England yesterday has disappeared. They are now focused on facing the championship with enthusiasm to win,” said Rionny.
