VIVA – The success of the Indonesian women’s badminton team to win the title in the 2022 Asian Team Badminton Championships in Malaysia, received an appreciation from PP PBSI General Chair Agung Firman Sampurna. The captain of the national tepok fur organization also praised the performance of Gregoria Mariska Tunjung et al.
“I appreciate and salute the achievements of the women’s team which successfully won the title at the Asian Team Badminton Championships. This is an achievement that we are all very proud of,” said Agung in a written statement from PBSI.
In the final of the Badminton Asia Team Championships 2022 which took place at the Setia City Convention Center, Selangor, Malaysia, Sunday 20 February, the women’s team emerged as champions by defeating South Korea 3-1. Meanwhile, the men’s team had to settle for being a finalist after being stopped by the host Malaysia, 0-3.
According to Agung, the women’s team victory in Selangor, Malaysia is also history. Because for the first time the Indonesian women’s team was able to enter the final and then became the champion for the first time.
“This is an achievement that must be recorded in the history of Indonesia’s badminton achievements. For the first time, the Indonesian women’s team can win the Asian Team Championship,” he said.
In Agung’s eyes, this success was even more special. The reason is, the players who enter the women’s team are back-up badminton players. In fact, many of them are playing for the Red and White for the first time in this Asian Championship.
“It turns out that the trust that we give to the back-up players can be answered with achievements. This indicates that the regeneration of players has gone well and is on the right track,” said Agung.
