As Daemon says in his narration: “Dreams don’t make us kings, dragons do.”

Apart from Matt Smith, the series will also star Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, Eve Best as Rhaenys Velaryon, Paddy Considine as Viserys Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, David Horovitch as Grand Maester Mellos, Jefferson Hall as Lord Jason Lannister, Fabien Frankel as Criston Cole, Matthew Needham as Larys Strong, Bill Paterson as Lord Lyman Beesbury, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria, and Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon.

Based on works George RR Martin, Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon will take you back 200 years, to a time when Daenerys’ ancestors from House Targaryen ruled Westeros. However, there was an internal conflict occurring within it which led to a civil war, which came to be known as the “Dance of Dragons.”

First published in 2018, Fire & Blood released as a companion A Song of Ice and Fire. In the novel, their story begins with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and continues through generations of Targaryens who fought to hold onto the iconic chair, until the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.

In Fire & Blood, Rhaenyra and Alicent are two rival foes, both vying for honor and seeking to claim the throne for themselves and their own heirs. The history of House Targaryen is filled with intrigue, drama, and even a hint of romance between several battles with dragons.

The prequel series started production some time ago and will premiere on HBO and be available to stream via HBO GO in 2022.
