VIVA – Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainuddin Amali reminded the hosts of the XXI Aceh-North Sumatra 2024 National Sports Week (PON) not to take athletes from other provinces to pursue achievements.
Zainudin reminded that in pursuing achievements, the provincial government should not carry out practices that are not commendable. For example, recruiting athletes from other provinces with lucrative lure so that it will harm the athlete’s province of origin.
“Achievements are obtained by coaching, not by taking athletes who have been fostered by other regions with the lure,” said Zainudin after declaring the XXI Aceh-North Sumatra PON at the Aceh Governor’s Hall, Thursday, February 24, 2022.
This, said the Minister of Youth and Sports, is also required for other provinces that will send their athletes to the Aceh-North Sumatra PON. According to him, so far, many PON athletes are not purely nurtured by the region itself.
To avoid that, his party will strengthen the coaching of athletes in all regions in Indonesia and then the results will be seen in the upcoming 2024 PON.
So that later his party can see which areas have weak development and which sectors need to be strengthened.
“So how do we measure if the athletes are not trained from that area. From there we can see that oh, this area is weak, so we have to strengthen it in the coaching sector, that is also part of the purpose of this PON,” he said.
