FX has finally announced the main cast of their limited series entitled Shogun. The project will be adapted and adapted based on James Clavell’s bestselling novel of the same name.
The novel Clavell, written in 1975, follows the story of the rise of a man named Yoshii Toranaga to the shogunate through the eyes of a British pilot named John Blackthorne. This FX-owned adaptation previously got the green light in 2018 and is slated to have 10 episodes.
Anna Sawai who recently appeared in F9 has been chosen as the female lead, Lady Mariko, the respected daughter of a famous samurai, who is asked for revenge by Yoshii Toranaga. Sawai will join together with Hiroyuki Sanada (Mortal Kombat) as Yoshii Toranaga, a feared and powerful daimyo. Cosmo Jarvis will play John Blackthorne, a pilot who is stranded in the Toranaga region and finds a mentor while being held captive.
Completing the limited series cast are Tadanobu Asano as Kashigi Yabushige, Fumi Nikaido as Ochiba No Kata, Tokuma Nishioka as Toda Hiromatsu, Takehiro Hira as Ishido Kazunari, Ako as Daiyoin “Lady Iyo,” Shinnosuke Abe as Toda Hiroshige “Buntaro,” Yasunari Takeshima as Muraji, Hiroto Kanai as Koshigi Omi, Toshi Toda as Sugiyama, Hiro Kanagawa as Igarashi, Nestor Carbonell as Rodrigues, Yuki Kura as Yoshii Nagakado, Tommy Bastow as Pastor Martin Alvito, Moeka Hoshi as Usami Fuji, Yoriko Doguchi as Kiri no Kata , and Yuka Kouri as Kitu. Director Jonathan van Tulleken will direct the first two episodes of the series.
Project Shogun is currently in production in Vancouver, Canada, and for the time being this limited series has no release date. And the official description of this period drama is:
“Shōgun, set in feudal Japan, charted the encounter of two ambitious men from different worlds and a mysterious female samurai. John Blackthorne, a risk-taking British pilot major, ends up stranded in Japan, a land whose foreign culture will ultimately change him. Lord Toranaga, a shrewd and powerful daimyo, is at odds with his own dangerous political rival. And Lady Mariko, a woman with invaluable skills but due to a tarnished family background, must prove her worth and loyalty.”
