JAKARTAYandex is the largest technology-based company in Russia that provides search engine services or search engine competitors Google. Although the name is quite foreign in Indonesia, Yandex is already very popular in Russia.

Most people will probably feel foreign when they hear the term Yandex search engine. This is because the majority of people only know Google as a search engine that is often used on the internet.

Like Google, Yandex as a search engine allows its users to access searches according to given keywords via the internet.

Yandex’s origins date back to 1990 when Arkady Volozh and Arkady Borkovsky founded Arkadia, a company that developed MS-DOS software for use in patents and goods classification.

Yandex was officially introduced on September 23, 1997 and was first exhibited at the Softool exhibition in Moscow.

Yandex is the most popular search engine in Russia beating Google. According to some sources, Yandex has more than 50 percent of users in Russia and this makes it more widely used than Google.

Apart from Russia, Yandex is also widely used in Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and several other countries. This makes Yandex the fifth largest search engine in the world after Google, Bing, Yahoo, and Baidu.
