Extractionis arguably one of the most successful action thriller films of all time where Chris Hemsworth really became a star when it was released in 2020 on Netflix. So don’t be surprised if the giant streamer immediately gave the green light for the sequel.
And now at Netflix’s TUDUM presentation last weekend, a teaser video featuring Hemsworth confirmed that Tyler Rake not only managed to survive the events at the end of the first film, but they also officially announced Extraction 2.
The teaser begins by showing the moment at the end of Extraction when Tyler Rake falls into a river from a bridge, after being shot in the neck. Tyler Rake looks like he can hold his breath and survive. “Tyler, you drowned not by falling into the river,” Mahajan said in a voice narration, “but by staying immersed in it.” Then using everything he had, he launched himself to the surface!
The temporary synopsis of this sequel reads, “In 2020, the world meets a new hero: Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), a fearless mercenary who goes on the deadliest mission of his career. But what seems to be missing… can still be unearthed.” Redirected by Sam Hargravethis action-packed film will again be produced by Joe and Anthony Russo.
As we know, less than a month after the release Extraction, a sequel officially got the go-ahead with Joe Russo confirmed to write the script. At that time, Russo commented that “A deal has been reached for me to write Extraction 2, and we are in the formative stages of what the story will be like. We haven’t committed to whether the story will move forward, or backward in time (the prequel). We left a hanging ending that left a question mark for the audience.”
Extraction is an action film set in the dark world of arms dealers and human traffickers. The story follows a young boy caught in a war between notorious drug lords.
