Dune starring Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Chang Chen as Dr. Wellington Yueh, Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Dr. Liet Kynes, Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam, Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban, David Dastmalchian as Piter De Vries, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Stephen Henderson as Thufir Hawat and Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck.
The film is set far in the future of mankind, when Duke Leto Atreides accepts an “assignment” on the dangerous desert planet Arrakis, also known as the Dune. The sole source of the universe’s most precious substance, “the spice,” a drug that prolongs human life, grants superhuman levels of thought, and allows passage between rooms. Even though Leto knows the opportunity is a tricky trap set up by his enemies, he brings his wife Lady Jessica, his son and heir to the throne Paul, and Arrakis’ most trusted advisors. Leto takes over the spice mining operation, which is made even more dangerous by the presence of a giant sandworm. Bitter betrayal leads Paul and Lady Jessica to Fremen, a native of Arrakis living in the deep desert.
Dune is the latest adaptation of the novel by that name which was also filmed in 1984 by David Lynch. Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth wrote the script for the new Dune along with Villeneuve. According to IndieWire, Villeneuve has wanted to make a film adaptation of his favorite novel since he was a teenager, so it looks like this film will be presented with all his heart by the director.
