VIVA – Repsol Honda team racer Pol Espargaro returns to the top of the official MotoGP test time record at the Mandalika Circuit after appearing the fastest temporarily until noon on Sunday 13 February 2022.
Previously, the track conditions were dirty due to dust, gravel and even mud on the track, preventing the riders from finding their riding limit on the first day, Friday.
This situation, according to FIM Grand Prix Safety Officer Franco Uncini, is normal for the new circuit, coupled with the massive construction going on around the track.
After the organizers mitigated by more intensive track cleaning, the riders were able to perform quickly on the second day when the racing line began to widen and the asphalt was covered with rubber tires which helped the bike gain traction.
Luca Marini on his Ducati scored the best lap of the second day with a record of one minute 31.289 seconds, much better than the fastest lap of the first day made by Pol Espargaro (1’32”466).
Track conditions seemed to be getting better on the third day and Espargaro again appeared at the top of the timetable until 12:00 WITA after scoring one minute 31.060 seconds on a Honda RC213V.
