INDOSPORT.COM – Mercedes has displayed a Formula One (F1) car that they will use to navigate the 2022 competition season. It looks very cool with a predominantly silver color.
The latest Mercedes car is expected to be able to lead Lewis Hamilton to reclaim the championship crown while ensuring the constructors’ title for the ninth time.
The F1 W13 is designed to comply with F1’s new rules which aim to feature better aerodynamics and 18-inch wheels that are also larger.
The car that will be driven by Lewis Hamilton and his teammates is back carrying the silver color which has become a Mercedes tradition. Previously, the Mercedes team used the black color scheme to challenge racism for the past two seasons.
“The hope, first of all, is that we have a competitive car. We don’t know if we are hunting for another title,” said team boss Toto Wolff.
“My hope is that the car goes fast and Lewis and George is happy with the way he drives and that it will be a good starting point.”
Mercedes dominated the last rule era which began with the introduction of a turbo-hybrid power unit in 2014. Since then, they have won every constructors’ title and look set to complete a double title sweep.
But a controversial safety incident at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix saw Red Bull’s Max Verstappen overtake racing ‘king’ Lewis Hamilton on the final lap to steal an eighth title.
“It’s a little surreal that as a team we were able to achieve that eight times in a row. Obviously there is a shadow of this with the drivers’ championship, the Lewsis championship, the Abu Dhabi situation,” said Toto Wolff.
