VIVA – The Badminton World Federation (BWF) also imposed penalties against Russia. This is a result of the invasion of Ukraine and the large number of victims.
In responding to violations committed by Russia and Belarus, BWF has held a meeting with the Council by agreeing on several things.
Some of them are BWF canceling all tournaments held in Russia and Belarus. In addition, the two countries also cannot use their respective flags and national anthems when participating in international badminton tournaments.
“All BWF-sanctioned tournaments in Russia and Belarus are hereby cancelled. No other tournaments will be allocated to Russia or Belarus until further notice,” read a BWF statement on the official website quoted Tuesday, 1 March 2022.
“The national flags of Russia and Belarus may not be flown, and the national anthems of Russia and Belarus cannot be played in any tournaments approved by the BWF until further notice.”
Apart from BWF, FIFA and UEFA also imposed sanctions for all Russian clubs and national teams to appear in international matches.
