VIVA – Indonesian badminton player Greysia Polii has been elected as Chair of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Athletes Commission for the 2022-2025 period.
The election of Polii was announced by BWF through their official website. The gold winner of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, who is paired with Apriyani Rahayu, admitted that he wanted to bring enthusiasm and energy as well as new experiences with the mandate he carried.
“I want to help my fellow players achieve their dreams and help with their requests to compete on the international stage,” Polii said.
The 34-year-old player must pass several stages of selection conducted by the BWF Vetting Panel, as required for all board members.
Meanwhile, the Dutch representative, Robin Tabeling, was elected as vice chairman by members of the commission. Other active players, Iris Wang (United States), Kim Soyeong (South Korea), Pusarla V Sindhu (India) and Zheng Si Wei (China) became members of the BWF Athlete Commission for this new period.
For your information, the Athlete Commission aims to represent the needs, voices and views of the athletes to be submitted to the BWF Board and Committee.
The Athletes Commission also acts as the official liaison between athletes and BWF. They also ensure that athletes’ opinions can be heard at the federation level.
