VIVA – Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernandez hints his team ‘give up’ in the race for the LaLiga title this season. He admitted, Barcelona needed Real Madrid to slip in the rest of the competition this season because of the difference in points.

Real Madrid is currently firmly at the top of the LaLiga standings with 63 points from 27 matches (19 wins, 6 draws, 2 losses). In second place is Sevilla with a collection of 56 points from 28 matches.

Meanwhile, Barcelona is still in third place in the La Liga standings after only posting 51 points from 27 matches. The collection of points is the same as Atletico Madrid, who sits in fourth place in the standings.

“La Liga is very difficult to win (by Barcelona), even though we can win at the Santiago Bernabeu (Barcelona will face Real Madrid this weekend,” Xavi said as reported by Tribal Football, Monday 14 March 2022.

“They (Real Madrid) have only lost twice this season and we need them to lose three or four more. We can’t be too optimistic about our chances (for the title),” continued Xavi.

The difference of 12 points did make Barcelona try to think realistically. Moreover, Barcelona is also overshadowed by two other teams that are ready to ‘pounce’ in the fifth and sixth ranks, Real Betis (49 points) and Real Sociedad (47 points).
