In a tweet, Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri said, “This decision will cut off 80 million people in Russia from each other, and from the rest of the world because about 80% of people in Russia follow Instagram accounts outside their country. This is wrong.”
The decision by the Russian government did not mention that the Russian oligarchs had used Instagram to speak out against the invasion.

But in some cases, the children of Russian oligarchs who became influencers with many followers such as Sofia Abramovich, daughter of billionaire Roman Abramovich, reportedly shared messages against the invasion of Ukraine.
One of Sofia Abramovich’s posts said, “The biggest and most successful lie of Kremlin propaganda is that most Russians stand with Putin.”
Meanwhile, Banker Oleg Tinkov, once Russia’s 15th richest man and one of the most high-profile dissidents, posted, “We are against this war!”
