VIVA – Andy Murray has expressed his disapproval of Novak Djokovic’s stance on the COVID-19 vaccine, and regrets that the best players cannot compete in major tournaments.
The former world number one and three-time major title winner commented on Djokovic’s attitude as the world number one returned to the tournament successfully with a 6-3 6-3 win over Italian Lorenzo Musetti in Dubai.
It was Djokovic’s first match of 2022 after he was deported from Australia last month for not being vaccinated.
“I think it would be a lot easier for him if he had the vaccine,” said Murray, who is also through to the second round in Dubai after a three-set win over Christopher O’Connell.

“But I also don’t like seeing him in the situation in Australia as someone I respect, I’ve known since I was a kid.”
“There are consequences for the decisions he made just now. He obviously has to accept that. But I don’t think it’s good for tennis if our best players don’t play in big tournaments.”
