VIVA – The draw for the men’s doubles sector at the prestigious All England 2022 badminton event is not profitable for Indonesia. Based on the results released by BWF on Tuesday, February 22, four of the six Red-White pairs had to clash with each other in the first round.
They were Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto who immediately met Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin, while Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan met Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana. The other two pairs are the first seed, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and the second seed, Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan.
Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto regretted the result, even though they were ready to fight. The world number nine pair also feels they have a plus because they can warm up first at the German Open before going down at the All England.
“If you look at the draw at the All England, it’s very unfortunate, because four Indonesian men’s doubles pairs directly met in the first round. But this is an individual match, so there must be something like that. So we want to do it,” said Fajar.
“Preparations are good enough, just maintenance. Take care of your condition and health. A plus for us going to the German Open first, we can measure our strength because the opponents in All England also mostly play in Germany. We also use Germany as a warm-up event,” continued Rian.
Meanwhile, the head coach of men’s doubles Herry Iman Pierngadi chose wisely. He felt this was a risk from the many representatives sent.
“I think it’s one of the risks if we field many pairs in one tournament. In the men’s doubles there are now six pairs in the All England, the risk is that they will meet alone but not all of them. But we have to go through that process because the ranking of three pairs, namely Pramudya / Jeremiah, Leo/Daniel and Bagas/Fikri are still in their 20s. So the chances of meeting themselves are great,” said Herry.
