Besides having beautiful islands, Indonesia also has mountain ranges that are ready to be climbed. Many think mountain climbing is a strenuous activity. However, there are also mountains that are quite easy for beginners to climb. Therefore, Popbela has summarized mountain recommendations in West Java which is suitable for beginners.
1. Princess Mountain
With a fairly easy hiking trail, Gunung Putri is suitable for beginners to climb. Located in Lembang, West Bandung Regency, you can reach the top in just 30 minutes. At an altitude of 1587 masl, you can enjoy sunrise and sunset without being covered in pollution.
To get to the top, you can take the path from Lembang Market towards Tangkuban Perahu, then pass the Great Mosque of Lembang, then stop at the alley towards Gunung Putri. From the alley, you only need to follow the road for approximately 20 minutes to reach the Gunung Putri area.
2. Mount Salak
Having a fairly easy track, Mount Salak is one of the climbers’ destinations for beginners. The path is quite sloping with stunning views, will treat your tiredness along the way. Mount Salak is located in Sukabumi Regency with an altitude of 2,211 meters above sea level.
Mount Salak has two peaks, namely peaks I and II. To get to the top II, you can take the Curugnangka route on the east side. If you want to go to peak I, climbers usually pass through the Cimelati area, near Cicurug, Sukabumi.
3. Mega Peak Mountain
Mount Puncak Mega is one of the recommendations for beginner climbers. To get to the top, you need to climb through Mount Puntang in Pangalengan. Arriving at the peak, there is a canal track to reach Mount Puncak Mega.
Having a height of 2,223 meters above sea level, Mount Puncak Mega has long been a tourist destination. With cool and fresh air, you can travel to campgrounds, love pools, bougenville parks and Curug Siliwangi.
4. Mount Malabar
Mount Malabar has the highest peak among other mountains in the Pangalengan area. With a peak of 2341 meters above sea level, you can see the city of Bandung, Mount Burangrang, Takuban Perahu and Bukit Tanggul from one place. For those of you who want to climb, you can take the left path at the first fork of the road before entering Pangalengan.
The Pangalengan area itself is already at an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level, so you will be presented with views of tea gardens and agricultural land when heading to the hill at an altitude of 1,900 meters above sea level. If you have reached the hill, you have to walk to get to the big peak.
5. Mount Papandayan
Mount Papandayan has a height of 2,665 meters above sea level and is often used as a climbing destination for beginners. Because it is often visited by climbers, during the trip to the top you will find many toilets or stalls. The main attraction of Mount Papandayan is the dead forest which is widely used as a place to take pictures.
Mount Papandayan has two hiking trails, the first is the Cisurupan trail, which is easier for novice climbers. Meanwhile, the Pandeglang route has a more steep track.
6. Mount Gede
Mount Gede is a volcanic mountain with a height of about 2,958 meters above sea level. It is located on the border of Bogor, Cianjur and Sukabumi Regencies. To get to the top of Gunung Gede, you can choose between the Gunung Putri route which is the most difficult track to go through, the Cibodas route is the route that is most frequently climbed and the Selabintana route is the longest route to the summit.
The three hiking trails are official routes because they are managed by the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park Area (TNGGP), while other roads besides the three routes are illegal routes.
7. Mount Cikuray
Besides Papandayan which is located in Garut, Mount Cikuray is also no less popular. Having an altitude of 2,821 meters above sea level, Mount Cikuray is the highest mountain in Garut. The climbers are also free to choose which path they want to take to climb, namely the Transmitter, Kiara Janggot, Cintanagara, Pamalayan, Tapak Geurot and Cikajang routes. Mount Cikuray is a type of volcano stratovolcano which has never erupted.
8. Mount Ciremai
One of the most popular mountains is Mount Ciremai. The highest peak in West Java has a height of 3,078 meters above sea level. Administratively, Mount Ciremai is included in the districts of Cirebon, Kuningan and Majalengka. The Mount Ciremai track has a long path on the edge of the crater with soothing views. The climb can be started from the Palutungan route in the south and the Linggarjati route in the north.
9. Thunder Mountain
Besides Mount Ciremai, many climbers also want to conquer Mount Guntur. Although only as high as 2,249 meters above sea level, Mount Guntur is famous for being quite difficult because it has steep terrain without any special paths. If the weather is foggy, the hiking trail will be more difficult for climbers because of the limited visibility. Arriving at the top, you will be presented with an amazing view and become a powerful tired medicine.
