35 People Reportedly Killed After Russian Missile Hits Ukrainian Military Base Near Border

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, KIEV – 35 people were reported killed after a Ukrainian military base used for NATO exercises was targeted by Russian airstrikes, Sunday (13/3/2022) morning local time.

It is known, the military base is located approximately 15 miles from the Polish border.

The governor of the Lviv region Maksym Kozytskyy earlier said 57 people were reported injured after 30 cruise missiles were fired at the International Center for Peacekeeping and Security in Yavoriv.

The attack came after a senior Russian diplomat warned that Moscow considered shipments of western military equipment to Ukraine as a legitimate target for attacks.

According to Sky News, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said there were foreign military instructors working at the military training ground in the Lviv region.

A defense ministry representative said they were still trying to ascertain whether any instructors were at the training facility at the time the base was bombed.

Reuters said a witness saw more than a dozen ambulances heading towards the base.

Since 2015, the US has regularly sent instructors to the military training site and the facility has also hosted international NATO exercises.

The largest military training facility in western Ukraine and located less than 15 miles (25 km) from the border with Poland.

“The invaders launched air strikes on the International Center for Peacekeeping and Security,” Anton Mironovich, spokesman for the Ukrainian Army Academy of the Armed Forces, was quoted as saying by Ukraine’s Interfax news agency.
