TRIBUNNEWS.COM — The Ukrainian military and mercenaries were unable to stem Russian air strikes on the Polish border.
An estimated 30 Russian missiles hit a large Ukrainian base near the border with NATO member Poland on Sunday (13/3/2022).
The Russian Defense Ministry said the airstrike had destroyed a large number of foreign-supplied weapons stored in the sprawling training facility, and had killed up to 180 foreign mercenaries.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said Russia had used high-precision long-range weapons to attack Yavoriv and separate facilities in Starichi Village.
“As a result of the attack, up to 180 foreign mercenaries and a large number of foreign weapons were destroyed,” Konashenkov said.
The Yavoriv Center for International Peace and Security is one of the largest military bases in Ukraine and the largest in the west of the country that has been spared the worst fighting so far.

The Yavoriv military base has an area of 360 sq. km. Its location is only 25 km from the Polish border which previously housed NATO military instructors.
Meanwhile, local Yavoriv officials reported that the Russian attack on the Yavoric military base killed 35 people and injured 134.
However, Reuters was unable to independently verify the casualties reported by both sides.
Russia itself had warned on Saturday (12/3/2022), that convoys shipping Western weapons to Ukraine could be considered legitimate targets.
